The Title of 'Surgeon'

The Royal College of Surgeons and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons have stated that the term 'surgeon' is being used too cheaply by other professionals who advertise themselves as surgeons but are not.

The examples of these are 'podiatry surgeons' and some 'aesthetic surgeons' who may not even be medically qualified.

A survey of 2000 people carried out by the Royal College of Surgeons showed that 98% of people would expect someone calling themselves a surgeon to have a medical background.

At the Yorkshire Skin Clinic our clinicians are all fully trained doctors and have then undertaken specialist training in surgical procedures at post graduate levels.

Our Aesthetic Surgeon - Dr Aaron Brown is not only a qualified doctor but a qualified Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England hence wears his 'surgeon' title absolutely correctly.

Nurses banned from getting Botox Prescribed Remotely

The GMC have said that doctors should not prescribe Botox remotely for nurses who practice Botox.

They said "We recognise that patients can benefit from communicating with their doctor by email, phone, or video-link or fax, as long as it is done safely, but our new guidance makes clear that doctors must now not prescribe medicines such as Botox remotely"

This will be problematic for Botox clinics run by Nurses who rely on Doctors to prescribe the Botox (a prescription only medicine) for them to administer.

The Doctor and Surgeon led treatments performed by us here at the Yorkshire Skin Clinic will not be affected by this GMC statement.

Does Botox Hurt?

Does it hurt?
Here at the Yorkshire Skin Clinic we use one of the smallest and thinnest needles available to us. If you have ever had a blood test or a vaccination the needle used for that will probably be bigger and more painful than the one we use. There may be a sharp scratch and a slight stinging sensation as the medicine is injected. This will pass quickly.

What is Botox?

What is Botox®?
Botox® is a trade name of the drug Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTTA). Different companies produce the drug BTTA under different names (just as a vacuum cleaner can be known as a Hoover or a Dyson). Botox® is the most well known to the public but many forms of the drug exist and your surgeon will talk to you about the best one for you.
